Description
Derided as a 'secretive cult' and its leader described as a 'seedy conman,' Kenja was still attracting a whole new generation of followers with promises of Utopia. But what is Kenja? Accused of mind control, sexual abuse and blamed by families for the disappearance of loved ones, the notorious cult has damaged many lives. Through remarkable observational footage and candid interviews, BEYOND OUR KEN takes inside this closed community, to explore the anatomy and ambiguity of cults. Kenja's leader Ken Dyers allows himself to be interrogated by the filmmakers in frank and lengthy interviews, and is exposed in a disturbing finale, with tragic consequences. As Kenja attendees past and present describe their experiences we discover the power and danger of faith and belief. "*This is no witch hunt: the filmmakers maintain an even handed tone throughout, and give equal time to all parties. It's ultimately Dyers and Hamilton who bring themselves undone, and Dyers' final outburst is highly unsettling and near-damning*." - Erin Free, ***FILMINK*** "*Strongly recommended!*" - Jim Schembri, ***The Age***
